The number of celebrations and special occasions we are invited to increases with the sunny season. Bear in mind two types of outfit: elegant foil fabric or silk effect trousers to match with tops and blazers; and short satin or georgette dresses to wear with woven band sandals and short taffeta jackets.

The bouquet of patterns on the dresses encapsulate springtime. A soft touch of matt colour dissolves into a cream background, highlighting much-loved pastel shades. The lines are slinky and versatile, and a stretch fit with a tight waistline is guaranteed by the belt: strictly in solid colours.

April Lookbook Backstage. The new trends.

The month of March has been packed with new ideas, from the collaboration with Gossip Girl to the "Elle for Motivi" project which will be continuing until April 10^th. After a long wait, with our model Serena we are now able to give you a preview of the new April 2012 lookbook. A multihued selection with a palette of colours ranging from powder pink to shades of the sea.

While the chevron stripe design treats us to a touch of the ethnic, standing out are the big natural or fluo polka dots, the blazer with a striped lining, and the miniskirts with "comic strip" prints. Lightweight fabrics like crêpe, satin and jersey adapt to casual and elegant looks depending on the outfit. The volumes vary for dresses and tops, ranging from the empire cut - tight below the bust and an ample waistline - to the stretch style which shapes and highlights a waspish waist.

The long jersey dress is on its way too in a summery version with a crossover neckline and maxi slit down the leg. Besides the bluette colour, the match is new too: denim gilet or hip jacket.

Denim Guide: what jeans do you go for?

Are you sure you know everything - absolutely everything - there is to know about jeans, the most ubiquitous item in our wardrobe? For example, can you differentiate between the various kinds of wash? If you see jeans described as being “baggy”, do you know what it means?

Well, to help you out here are some guidelines so you can tell the difference between the various styles in terms of:

- fit: cut, leg and waistline.

- washes and treatments

- details: do they have inserts or appliqués?

- collection: what’s the difference between the so-called Basic styles and the other jeans in the collection?

Follow this small guide, tell us your questions or suggestions. :-)

Cut and leg

Bootcut: jeans with a wide fit down the leg, flaring at the bottom. This category can be divided into:

Bootcut, with a regular fit down to mid-calf, and widening at the bottom to 20 cm.
Flared, with a regular fit down to the knee, widening towards the bottom up to 22-24 cm.

Both styles are great with décolletées, wedges, lace-ups, sandals, and sneakers too. Take care with heels: never let trousers trail along the floor, but don’t wear them above the heel either!

Regular (or straight) jeans: equally wide all the way down the leg.

Skinny (or slim): very tight, clinging to the body from the waistline down to the bottom of the leg. Definitely more sexy, they lend themselves to various uses: inside high and ankle boots, worn with ballerinas and décolletées. Skinnies have also evolved into jeggings, midway between jeans and leggings, made of more lightweight, stretch fabric, and at times ankle-length.

Waistline

High-waisted jeans hide the belly button, low-waisted styles fasten below the waistline, and regular waist jeans are midway between the two.

Baggy jeans have a very low-slung waistline, a very large crotch, and are worn hanging on the hips and getting tighter towards the bottom of the leg.

Treatments and washes

Stone-washed: washing with pumice stones gives the jeans a “faded” look with a uniform, used effect.

Stone bleach (stone-washed and bleached): the combined action of the two treatments produces irregular, uneven splashes of colour tending to light blue and white.

Used: special washes and distressing - like tears and patches - give the jeans a worn look.

Sandblasting: a technique by which some areas on the jeans are distressed using strong jets of sand. The jeans are then faded.

Rinse wash: a dark, full deep colour rinse with no used effects like fading or blotches.

Details and collection

Within the denim collection you will notice price ranges varying depending on: fabric (more or less comfort), details and appliqués, product line.

The Motivi Basic jeans line, for example, is designed for everyday use, with a much ‘cleaner type of wash than the others, and only a few applications. This is because they have to be trendy, but at the same time be versatile and last over the years.

The High Quality line, on the other hand (like the jeans designed for the various capsule collections), is packed with jewel details. It has its own distinct style, and is inspired by the latest trends making each single look even more glamorous. In a nutshell, they are the lookbook styles! Among the main variations we find: jeans with coloured stones and rhinestones, jeans with real Swarovski, skinny jeans with gold glitter.

Foulard, the new must-have

Bon ton, ladies!

Spring Collection is proving to be a turning point for the foulard.

Used to its featuring in Haute Couture as an accessory, tied below the chin as in the '60s, or worn in the style of Audrey Hepburn, around the face together with big dark glasses?

Well now the foulard is becoming a younger garment: intertwined onto the collars of shirts as a bow, revived as a belt on skirts and jeans, and showing its trendiest side on dresses and t-shirts with foulard prints in satin and crépon.

The inspiration behind the design is clear: it comes from the Eighties and Nineties, with crests, floral patterns and geometric motifs. Highly colourful and vitamin-rich, chic in the fabrics, but essential in the designs.

We don’t know where to put them anymore, but one thing’s for sure: we really must have that pair. How about we delve a bit more deeply into the marvellous world called “Shoes"?!

We start with boots in January, moving on later to lace-ups, ankle boots and décolletés. By March (or even sooner) though we can’t live without ballerinas, and then it’s the turn of sandals with platforms, and finally beach flip-flops to breath the sea air day in day out.

The first new arrivals of the 2012 Collection are in the shops, and - one step at a time - the time has come to discover them all. Beautiful, sexy and extremely elegant, today we have decided to dwell for a moment on open-toe décolletés. Ready?!

Warmth and passion for the red eco-suede décolletés to match with black and white for a rock heart footprint. Chic with black pants and a printed t-shirt, oversize tunics with gold coatings, and fluid fabric dresses such as the style with tulle and studs or the bat-sleeved model in an optical print.

Romanticism galore if you wear these décolletés with the heart print, paired with the stylish gym trousers with hearts and elastic at the bottom of the leg, or the crew-neck jumper with an embroidered heart on the front.

We haven’t forgotten you! In fact, open-toed denim décolletés are back by great demand (sold out totally straightaway last year) with a bow, eco-leather inserts, and straw-effect heel and platform.

If you want to avoid the “total denim” look, wear them with white pants and the striped tunic in nuances of blue (with Lurex inserts), or with pastel shades such as the foulard print dress.

And to end with, what about the brushed eco-leather décolletés? 10 cm of pure beauty. What’s more, the inner sole is in real leather for a more comfortable fit. And a shade-on-shade outfit with contrasting black and blue or gold details will take care of making your figure even more svelte. Because you’re not going to opt for a total leather look, right? ;-)

The common thread running through the outfits of today is yellow.

Cliché-free, it’s the most radiant colour in fashion, bringing verve, optimism and vitality.

Yellow is matched here with neutral colours, snakeskin prints and sportswear-style active details. One big theme for this season focalized by the matching of yellow with neutrals is colour blocking, a glamour feature in the round-necked double fabric dress which is longer at the back on top, and shorter below at the front, and has a contrasting yellow insert. Rounding off the look are the long-sleeved perforated V-neck cardigan and eco-leather clutch bag (look 2).

Asymmetries and size effects treat spring to curvy shapes. An example is the oversize t-shirt with a snakeskin print, which is shorter in georgette at the front and longer in very lightweight jersey at the back (look 1), and the asymmetric tunic with a positioned print and grosgrain motifs on the sides (look 3). This silhouette is completed by the crêpe blazer to be worn with pulled up sleeves like the most celebrated “it girls”, the high-waisted skinny jeans, and the cropped cotton pants with darts and turn-ups.

Look 2: colour block dress, woven sandals with external platforms.

So the Spring 2012 Collection’s looking good, isn’t it?

A lot of lightness, thanks to fabrics like crêpe that are practically imperceptible to the touch.

You’ll hear a lot about "crêpe" in the new season. For the non-experts, it’s a French word meaning "crimp", and it’s used in fashion to denote all those fabrics with a wavy, crinkled, frizzed look that usually have a silk base, but may also be made from wool or synthetic fibres. The end result in any case is a delicate, soft, “silky” texture.

Look 3: asymmetric tunic with active details, high-waisted skinny jeans, patent décolletées with external platforms.

Among the strategic snakeskin accessories: the foulard, sash belt with python details, python belt with rhinestones, open-toed décolletées and soft sack bag.

Gold, the new trend for 2012

Is anyone still capable of resisting the appeal of gold? Certainly not fashion, the first to recognize its seductive power and confirm gold as one of the dominant trends next spring summer.

The status symbol par excellence and standing for elegance and luxury, gold will light up any outfit with its gleaming lustre, imposing its presence on all the categories in the new SS 2012 collection. From jackets to accessories, taking in t-shirts, dresses and trousers on the way.

A tricky colour to wear, it should be avoided as a total look and flaunted with style along with white, red and black, which tone down its strong core in favour of a more ‘rock’ feel, thanks to the use of studded details and slim interlaced chains.

A lot of attention is paid to new fabrics, and to the coated and foil effects which are well represented in the trousers. This includes the jeans with gold coating, the black jeans with leather side strips, the skinnies in a stretch techno fabric, and the point-de-Milan bootlegged pants retracing a best seller from last season in a springtime weight.

The rock theme continues into the t-shirts too, from the box and kimono sleeve styles thru to the striped t-shirts like the ample jersey style with black stripes and faded gold Lurex, and the more stretch alternative, which combines black and white stripes with gold details and touches of red (look 3).

A must-have is the short-sleeved asymmetric gold foil t-shirt with exposed rear zip: a detail presented on the catwalks, and the new collection’s leitmotiv (look 1).

The jackets are the real stars of this colour trend: from the crushed eco-leather style with gold chains around the edges (look 3), to the short jacket in a loosely-woven fabric inspired by the celebrated French Maison and enhanced with fringes and studs (look 2).

Printed SS 2012 collection t-shirts

Curious about what’s new in the SS 2012 collection?

Let’s start with the printed t-shirts. Already a cult in out wardrobe, here they’re re-launched in a new version.
More versatile, more ‘rock’, more shiny.

“Never take yourself too seriously” is what the latest trends in t-shirts are telling us, with their lettering and graphics becoming a genuine device for expressing thoughts, words and emotions in a fun, sarcastic way.

While the t-shirts take on an ironic allure, the right elegance is taken care of by the rest of the look, starting with the trousers, skirts and over garments. A new alternative to the trench coat or the denim jacket is the blazer, which goes nicely with the idea of contemporary outfits that are ample on top and slim down below.

In fact, the shape range extends, with oversizes and asymmetrical cuts gaining ground alongside the super stretch line. Matched with the extra slim black calf-length skirt or the skinny pants with gold coating, they are increasingly the focus of “evening” outfits, as well as daytime wear.

So metropolitan silhouettes give the green light to printed t-shirts together with ballerinas during the day, while sexier outfits take over at night, with woven sandals or two-tone patent décolletés with dizzily high heels.

WHAT TO WEAR?
A good question considering how hard it is and how much time we spend finding the right gear. Some people think of it simply as a dinner, a night out just like any other; others book up six months in advance in the expectation of experiencing the hottest night of the year. What does it matter when the upshot is always the same: we have to be ready for the midnight toast. The only ‘cin cin’ that - amidst all the celebrations and false expectations - requires us to play our part with class.

The look you go for will obviously depend on where you’re headed, but there’s no lack of styles to choose from. They all agree on black, whatever the look...

Sexy
In a club or at an awesome party, surrounded by thousands of new faces. A short dress above the knee, with shimmering sequins and a plunging neckline at the back. Whether the sleeves are long or short, always have some hand muffs with you, taking them off as soon as you get up and dance. Ankle boots with high (but wide) heels are great for looking after your feet.

Chic
Pochette in your hand and... off to that trendy restaurant! You can’t afford to risk any slip-ups, so: long hair gathered up or short hair pulled back, clean face, light makeup and stylish accessories. Mini earrings with flashy necklace, long earrings if they are your only jewellery, Long dress with big slits and gold details, or short dress with soft neckline, one short sleeve in sequins and one chain shoulder strap. Ankle boots or décolletés, thin heels forever.

Casual chic
Classic black trousers... no! Leave them in the drawer, at least on New Year’s Eve. If you prefer pants, why not opt for Lurex or chenille leggings under a lamé effect stretch dress? Less demanding and more chic! Otherwise you can cut a fine figure too in a long dress with a slit, matched with a cardigan with stars and silver effect belt. The long dress is toned down by the grey and the “starry” motif, giving it a younger look.

Fashionable down jackets for winter 2011

We have already presented a first selection of padded jackets from the AW 2011 collection.
The new offerings opt for softer shades like earthy colours, white and mauve. The patent look is banished, and replaced with matt and shiny hi-tech fabrics. The feather and down fills with textured stitching effects are soft to the touch. Fur and faux fur provide removable volume from collars and hoods.

Long or short, this season’s down jackets are fitted at the waist with elasticized belts featuring metal buckles. Matched with skinny pants and Basic tops they give a real touch of glam. There’s a big variety of shoes to wear with them. Trendy in the city with boots and ankle boots, practical in snowy resorts with rubber platforms and low boots with knitted legs.

Three star looks for New Year’s Eve 2011. The trend is gold, sparkling on sequins and Lurex matched with flashy black in chenille, satin and jersey. The tight waistlines, stretch fabrics and figure-hugging fits show off the curves, and the outfits are made even sexier by plunging necklines, front and rear. Bags: pochette without a doubt, with bows and laminated effects. Shoes: black eco-suede pumps or ankle boots are fine, so long as they are coordinated with the rest of the look.

Brrr, it’s so cold! Are you ready for the opening of the ski season? The snow isn’t so bad after all, in fact it’s decidedly glam!

There’s no lack of exclusive resorts, and - believe it - knowing how to ski is not the first or only thing that will be expected of you. Quite the opposite. The only real must in these highly sought-after destinations is: being trendy and attending events like a true star. If you love fashion, suffer the cold and don’t fancy rolling down the slopes, there are some perfect places for you, even in the mountain. While your partner is performing on the piste, you can take a look round the smart shop windows in the centre, or take your time enjoying tea and cakes in the most in vogue coffee shop in the village.

The perfect white week snowwear has to differ between day and night, with a "yeti chic style". Jackets and down jackets with fitted waists in neutral shades with winter boots, high-necked cashmere pullovers and knitted dresses with chain shoulder straps. For a touch of elegance, get out the fur and faux fur: from the shot heavyweight jacket on animalier dress, to the gilet with fringes to be worn on a white pullover and knitted boots.

Let’s be honest: cocoa isn’t brand new to our wardrobe. For some time golden brown has become a must-have in all its various nuances, adapting perfectly in the right guise to every season.

We matched it with white in the spring summer 2011 Motivi collection, remember? Now it’s the turn of natural hues to put together and overlay shade-on-shade, and of scarlet in a wave of trendy colours for warm autumnal clothing. Compared to last year the biggest change is in the fabrics: lightweight satin dresses make way for soft woollen outfits and pullovers, while eco-leather combines with faux fur on shoes and accessories for a soft & chic effect.

The down jackets in the AW 2011 collection

The down jacket is the heavyweight jacket that tends to be the most deceptive: its padding is a great source of heat, yet there’s always a risk it will transform us into ungainly snowgirls, shrinking our femininity appeal to less than 0%.

Well lately this over garment has gained ground thanks to skilful redesigning, getting trendier by the year. You might think this would work against coats, which up to now have reigned supreme when it comes to wintery elegance. In reality though, in the cold season room has to be found for both in our wardrobe to cater for all our needs.

So long as the temperatures allow, how can we say no to a ’60s-style colourful coat and a black double-breasted trench coat that shows off our ‘waspish waist’? Not to mention special events and ceremonies, where the latest fashion in coats with a fitted waist are de rigueur on elegant dresses in our extreme bid to leave a glimpse of what’s underneath and a flash of thigh, even in the midst of the freezing cold. Fair enough: if we have to die of cold, at least let’s do it with grace! :-)

So this is where the down jacket comes to our rescue, ready to save our faces as well as our skins deep into the winter. Its inner padding continues to guarantee thermal energy, saving us the hassle of multi-layered clothing that ends up with us taking at least ten minutes to strip off every time we enter a heated environment. Giving the puffas a new look are the outer coatings using shaped, shiny fabrics packed with glam details, such as waist-hugging belts, gleaming buttons, stitching and faux fur inserts.

Hair styling: the trendy cuts!

When there’s a change of season (and life), a new hairstyle is a must to be on top form.

Fancy a cut? Well, go for it! Short hair is back in fashion: layered, messy or slick with gel, and above-all hair waxes. Had you already heard about them? Waxes are increasingly recommended by hair stylists because unlike gels they let you control every single lock of hair and simulate the messy look without getting greasy. So give it a try now!

Celebrities have always been a source of inspiration, and on the subject of 2011 short cuts international hair stylist Enrico Mariotti cites English top model Agyness Deyn as the best example. Blonde, British and featured already on the cover of Vogue. We’re definitely fans, especially of her new urchin cut with a side parting, which is perfect for the masculine look proposed by Motivi too in the photos of the new autumn winter 2011/12 collection (soon online!) and in the October lookbook.

On the lookout for new ideas for a fashionable look? The November lookbook is ready to help you out with a range of outfits to wear at work, in your free time and on the trendiest nights out.

The starting point is black, not as a focus but as a contrast base colour for the most elegant looks. Dresses and accessories are engulfed by garish shades and details in the most diverse forms: from the eco-fur stole to the arm muffs with a bow and fur in petrol green; from sequin waves to Lurex inserts and romantic heart prints.

Don’t abandon natural tones though, in vogue as they are for the daytime with shade-on-shade combinations. The focus brown styles are: the jacquard pullover, the knitted dress with flounces, the snakeskin dress and the t-shirt with faux fur details and sequins. On the front line in bottoms are retro fabrics, with the straight-legged needlecord trousers and the Prince-of-Wales bootlegs. Last year we were wrapped up in (and by) a leopard-skin print. In 2011 it’s the snakeskin print that’s ready to meet our strongest expectations.

Besides the classic ‘python’ bag, in the AW 2011 collection eco-friendly snakeskin spreads out over belts, stoles, dresses and even trousers, in a host of colours and glam shades. If you are used to natural snakeskin nuances, open up your wardrobe to blue, terracotta and a golden effect for evening wear alongside black.

Lovely though it is, snakeskin is often a challenge when it comes to making matches. Never with... a total python look! With snakeskin accessories go for a plain dress, and vice-versa choose single-shade accessories to go with a snakeskin print dress. In detail: blue with blue, terracotta or natural shades; terracotta with terracotta, blue or shade-on-shade tones; natural with the various nuances of brown, and white and grey.

Look 1: V-neck pullover with braiding below the bust; belt with snakeskin print; eco-leather boots with chain.

Look 2: snakeskin belt with metal inserts; Basic viscose polo neck t-shirt; Basic super skinny jeggings.

Coats are the ideal overgarment for the start of the winter season. Worn on dresses on sunny days, they look good on polo neck pullovers when the cold is beginning to bite, and if the temperature drops even further they can be worn under a cape or a knitted poncho for an extra touch of warmth.

Particularly trendy in the 2011 autumn winter collection are double-breasted or zipped '60s-style coats with a masculine cut.
